Las Vegas!
June 25-29, 2005
After a surprise send-off by some of the Village Red Hatties, we headed off to Las Vegas for the 2005 Red Hat Society National Convention. There were 5,028 red hat ladies at the convention, 216 of whom were from Ohio. California had the largest contingent of 1,262, North Dakota had 2,the smallest contingent. There were 4 from Australia; 6 from Alberta, Canada; 41 from British Columbia; 6 from Nova Scotia; 3 from Ontario, Canada; 3 from Mexico and 1 from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Doris and Shirley saw two shows--Celine Dion at the Colosseum and Cirque Du Soleil's Ka at the MGM Grand. Glenda and Ginny saw Ka only since they met Betty's family while we went to the Celine show.  Next year the 2006 Convention will be in New Orleans at the Super Dome with the Hyatt Regency New Orleans being the host hotel. (Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and caused the convention to be moved to St. Louis).
Ginny bought a bag at Cirque du Soleil's Ka.

sill in her room.
Our door decorations were one of the few we saw as we walked the hallway but we were proud of ours.
Imagine our surprise when a group of our red hat ladies gave us a big send-off!

Should I or shouldn't I?
After arrival, we met Betty C. and her daughters, Carol and Debbie, for lunch at the Paris Restaurant. Yummy!!!

She is a bit sloppy so Doris had to clean her up.
Is that Miss Hattie in the men's room checking out the ferns in the urinals?

Don't know who she is but what a hat!
Is Doris swooning
over Elvis?

I don't think so!
Kelly Lang, TV Anchor and mystery writer of "Graveyard Shift,"
and 50+ year old Anne Abernathy, again participating in the 2006 Olympic Luge event for the Virgin Islands wearing a red helmet , also entertained us but unfortunately we did not get either picture.
A great show!

Here we are in the Imperium taking a card and stamping class on our last day. We made the card in the center of the second picture plus a bookmark.
Las Vegas Showgirl
Dr. Ruth Mullen, Hug and Joy Therapist
She quoted the following to us:
"My fling is not flung
My dance is not sprung
And my fun is not done."
Great face and hat!
On our last day at the convention, while we were at a card stamping class, we noticed 83-year-old Dr. Ruth Mullen, a Hug and Joy Therapist, from Arlington, Texas. To us, she is the epitome of the subject of "When I Grow Old I Shall Wear Purple." Notice the cane made by a friend of her son. The wood in the cane came from seven different states and has wood of many different colors. What a delight she was to meet!
Her cane.
The Whole Package
Tired, weary and happy but so glad we came. We are heading home where we will eagerly await next year's convention in the Super Dome in New Orleans, LA.
Aren't her shoes fabulous?
